An update on the county's college and professional athletes

COLLEGES

BASEBALL

DEE BROWN: The Hernando High School graduate and freshman left fielder at Central Florida was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks Monday. Brown batted .538 and knocked in 10 runs in four games as the Golden Knights went 3-1 to improve to 25-15, 13-2 in the ASC. Brown went 6-for-11 in a three-game sweep of Belmont. He had seven RBI and two doubles. Brown is hitting .408 this season to lead all freshmen in the conference. Brown is tops on his team in doubles (9) and RBIs (35) and has a 12-game hit streak.

CHRIS COLE: The sophomore catcher from Hernando High is batting .313 for Stetson, 31-6 and ranked 25th in the nation by Baseball America.

DENIS HERNANDEZ: The outfielder for Lindenwood (Mo.) University (13-19), a former Hernando player, is batting .313 and has 2 home runs, 1 triple and a .656 slugging percentage.

TENNIS

PRO

BRONSON ARROYO: The pitcher is with the AAA Nashville Sounds in the Pittsburgh organization. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in six innings Sunday as the Sounds lost their fourth in a row, 4-1 to Sacramento. For the season, Arroyo is 1-2 and has a 3.63 ERA

BERT SNOW: The Hernando alum is recovering from a ligament-replacement surgery last spring and is rehabbing for the Oakland Athletics at their Phoenix spring training facility.

BRENT STENTZ: The pitcher and ex-Hernando player, recovering from a nerve injury last summer, is not under contract.

GOLF

KELLY LAGEDROST: The Brooksville player is 26th ($2,268) among the Futures Tour money leaders. The tour's next event is the Coleman Classic at Willowbend Golf Club in Wichita, Kan. The top three individuals at the end of the season earn LPGA cards. The next eight receive a bye into the final round of qualifying school.

SOCCER

JENNIFER O'SULLIVAN: The Springstead alum did not play in the New York Power's season-opening 4-1 win over Washington because of an injured knee.
