Boy, 15, faces charge of having sex with girl

BROOKSVILLE -- A 15-year-old Brooksville boy was arrested Tuesday after school officials reported he had sex with a 12-year-old girl.

Brooksville police Lt. Rick Shew said the relationship was apparently consensual and came to light when the girl mentioned it to a teacher.

The boy, whose name is being withheld by the Times because of his age, was charged with a lewd and lascivious act on a 12-year-old and taken to the detention center in Marion County, Shew said.

Shew said the matter is under investigation and could result in another arrest. Police have determined another boy also might have had sex with the girl, he added.
