Art League to work on financing for new theater

HERNANDO -- The Citrus County Art League will try April 30 to work out a financing agreement for a new community theater, a project in progress for 10 years. The league's financial advisory board will meet with lenders to seek financing. If successful, construction will begin this summer. Volunteers have offered a full season of productions since 1986 in the building they share with visual artists at County Road 486 and Annapolis Avenue. If the theatre is constructed, the existing building will be remodeled to accommodate an expanded visual arts education program and gallery exhibitions, said Sharon Harris, art league president. The theater is financed in part by a grant from the Department of State's Cultural Affairs Division, the Florida Arts Council and by donations. Contributions through 2005 can be matched by state funds. Contributors may call Harris at 527-9372.

Storms delay homecoming of the whooping cranes

CHASSAHOWITZKA -- The whooping cranes flew into Wisconsin on Thursday but appeared to have stopped short of home because of thunderstorms, officials said. The weather looks good for today, however, and the cranes are closing in on Necedah National Wildlife Refuge. The cranes are migrating from Chassahowitzka, where they spent the winter after being led from Wisconsin behind ultralight aircraft. To track the progress, visit www.bringbackthecranes.org.
