TAMPA -- For the first time, the South Florida track program has swept the Conference USA men's and women's athlete of the week awards.

For the men, high jumper Jimmy Baxter was honored after his jump of 7 feet, 41/2 inches, at the Miami Gatorade Invitational on Saturday. Not only was the mark a school and meet record, it was also the top performance in the nation this season.

Baxter, also a member of the basketball team, earned All-America status in track last season as a freshman.

The women's award went to sophomore Chandra Brewer, who broke her own school record in the shot put with a throw of 51-0 at the Miami Gatorade Invitational. The mark was also a NCAA provisional qualifier and the top performance this year in Conference USA.

The Bulls' next meet is the Gator Twilight Saturday in Gainesville.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Florida Sea Dragons selected former USF standouts B.B. Waldon and Altron Jackson in last week's United States Basketball League draft. Waldon was taken with the seventh pick of the second round (17th overall) and Jackson was the third pick of the sixth round (53rd overall).

Waldon finished his four-year career with the Bulls third on the all-time conference scoring list with 1,869 points. Jackson, who ended his career as the all-time leading scorer in C-USA, is also projected to be selected in the NBA draft June 26.

MEN'S GOLF: USF finished sixth at the Arkansas State Indian Classic behind an outstanding second round from Jay Cavanaugh. The Bulls shot a 54-hole total of 890 to finish 21 shots behind winner Arkansas State.

Cavanaugh, who shot a career-low 65 in the second round, shot 75 in the final round for a total of 215 to tie for fifth place. Ricky Carrillo also finished among the top 20, carding a 54-hole 222 to tie for 16th. The Bulls play at the C-USA tournament Monday-Wednesday in Navarre Beach.
