Contractor is accused of cheating homeowners

CLEARWATER -- A Dunedin contractor was arrested Wednesday on charges he never finished home improvement work for two local residents.

Stephen M. Honey, 44, was charged with grand theft. He also was charged with five counts of unlicensed contracting or falsely presenting himself as a licensed contractor, arrest reports state.

Honey promised a Tarpon Springs couple he would perform more than $6,000 in work. Honey also promised a woman that he would fix the roof on her mother's Clearwater home, arrest reports state. Neither job was finished.

Grand jury indicts man in fatal shooting

ST. PETERSBURG -- A grand jury has indicted one of two men arrested in connection with the March 16 shooting death of a St. Petersburg man.

Grand jurors handed up a first-degree murder indictment against Angelo Adkins, 31, but did not indict John Henry Sampson, 21. St. Petersburg police had arrested both in connection with the slaying of Eric J. Eure, of 903 Brookwood Court.

Chief Assistant State Attorney Bruce Bartlett said there were problems with the case against Sampson. Bartlett said Sampson will not be charged with any crime in connection with the death unless new evidence surfaces.
