DADE CITY -- Sometimes volunteering is a thankless job. Sometimes it's not.

DADE CITY -- Sometimes volunteering is a thankless job. Sometimes it's not.

On Thursday, Dade City said "Thank You" to more than 80 community volunteers who have toiled away the past two years on a variety of projects, from advisory boards to sweeping out the Lindy C. Smith Civic Center, laying bricks on historic streets or shoveling gravel out of the old Crescent Theater building.

Laura Beagles, assistant to the city manager, said the city presented a special award to Linae Paulsen, the city's volunteer coordinator. Every volunteer was presented with a coffee cup full of candies and cocoa powder. An official certificate of appreciation, signed by Mayor Scott Black, will follow, Beagles said.

Commissioners Eunice Pennix, Scott Black and Lowell Harris joined City Manager Doug Drymon for the reception and awards.

"The most positive thing about this was that Mr. Drymon and the commissioners got the chance to shake their hands and thank all the volunteers personally," Beagles said. "We really appreciate all they do."

Printed on the coffee cups that were handed out was the verse, "You make our community better with the gift of time you share. Thanks for being a great volunteer who supports us with your care."

Beagles said the city always needs more volunteers to serve on boards, help with maintenance and work on a variety of projects. To volunteer, call Martha Alexander at City Hall, (352) 521-5050, and she will forward the offers to Paulsen.
