By Times staff reports Final signup Tuesday for older Lutz Little LeaguersLUTZ -- Final registration for the 2002 Lutz Little League's Big League Division is Tuesday. Signups run from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Oscar Cooler Complex, 770 Lutz-Lake Fern Road. The division is open to players ages 17 and 18; cost is $85. Registrants must present an original birth certificate and proof of residency, which is three of the following: driver's license, voter registration card, property tax records, or utility bills. Lutz teen goes far in key tennis tournamentLUTZ -- Florida's top 16 and under singles and doubles player, Stacia Fonseca of Lutz, held her own April. 4-11 in the 35th Easter Bowl Super National Tennis Tournament in Palm Springs, Calif. The Easter Bowl is ranked as one of the top USTA tournaments on the youth tennis circuit. Fonseca, 16, made it to the final 16 in individual brackets, recording a 3-1 record. She joined forces with Michelle Mitchell of East Amherst, N.Y., to make it to the finals match for doubles. The two took the silver medal for the tournament dropping a 6-2, 6-3 match to Brooke Buck and Kelsey Tefft of Oklahoma. Carrollwood swimmers take third in national meetSARASOTA -- Carrollwood Village Swim Team members captured third place in the Boys and Girls Club National Swimming Championships last weekend at the Selby Aquatic Center in Sarasota. Mount Kisco, N.Y., won first place and Team Florida took second. Carrollwood's Stephen Brock, 10, Megan Cook, 12, Jenn-Jenn Mackey, 12, Grant Nelson, 16, Vincent Donnelly, 10, Emeri Lewkowicz, 12, and Adrienne Fernandez, 12, won national championships for individual and relay team performances. Cook placed second nationally for total points scored for her age group and won individual gold for national championships in the 50 and 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle. Brock placed third nationally in total scoring and won the gold medal in the 50-yard breaststroke. Although Nelson won individual gold medals in 500 and 1,650 freestyle and 200 butterfly, he placed fourth nationally in total points for senior boys. Donnelly won the 100 butterfly and 100 individual medley, Mackey the 50 backstroke and Mackey, Lewkowicz, Fernandez and Cook combined forces to win the 200 medley relay. Other high scorers for Carrollwood included Matthew Attal, 12, fifth for his age group, and Gina Mayer, 12, also fifth nationally for her age group. Tryouts planned May 4 for cheerleading squadTryouts for positions on the national championship Florida Wildcat All-Star Cheerleading squads are set for 1 p.m. May 4 at Lightning City Gymnastics Gym. Registration under way for charity golf tourneyCROSS CREEK -- Register now for the sixth annual charity golf tournament, sponsored by the Rotary Club of New Tampa. The fundraiser is Saturday at the Heritage Isles Golf & Country Club, 10630 Plantation Bay Drive. Proceeds will benefit the New Tampa Rotary Foundation, which supports a variety of local charities. Sponsorships are available. Teams of four will compete; cost is $90 per person. Bar association signing up golfers for tournamentCARROLLWOOD -- The Carrollwood Community Bar Association is registering golfers for its Friday charity scramble golf tournament. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. at Northdale Golf and Country Club, 4417 Northdale Blvd. Play will include contests for hole in one, closest to the pin, longest drive, a raffle, silent and live auctions and an evening awards dinner. Proceeds will benefit All Sports Community Service, a nonprofit that supplies mentors and college scholarships for deserving students. New Tampa Wildcats need players and cheerleadersCROSS CREEK -- The New Tampa Wildcats still have openings for youth football and cheerleading. There are four age-weight divisions ranging from 7-15 years old, with a limited number of positions on each roster. Participants will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents need the child's birth certificate, a wallet size photo and proof of residency. Proof of a 2002 medical physical will be required by June 1. The cost of $200 includes registration and a fundraising contribution. Parents will also be required to complete/sign a volunteer, fundraising and code of conduct form. Signup under way for summer tennis campCARROLLWOOD -- The Country Club of Carrollwood is registering students for its summer tennis camp, which begins June 3. The club offers programs for various age groups and experience levels. The tots program provides students 4 to 7 years old an introduction to tennis. Juniors, ages 8-18, work on individual skills and match play. The focus in the advanced juniors program for players 8-18 is on strategy, technical skills and competitive play. Nine sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 2. Coach Chris Cary said a perk of the program is the cool-down swim in the club pool at the end of the camp day. Five co-ed soccer camps planned in June and JulyKEYSTONE -- Hillsborough County United has scheduled five co-ed soccer camps for players ages 5 through 15.
