ALTAMONTE SPRINGS -- The good news for Durant is that it is in the top three at Sanlando Park.

The bad news is that its chances for a championship are remote at best.

Naples scored 10 points on the opening day and has four singles players in today's finals. East Lake is second with eight points and has two representatives in the finals, and it advanced two teams in the doubles quarterfinals.

Durant has six points and No. 4 John Henderson and No. 5 Justin Whitford remaining in singles. The doubles team of Alex Vuckovic and Shaun Young advanced to the semifinals, but Henderson and Ryan Young lost to Naples' Andrew Roth and Albert Mercer in the No. 2 quarterfinal.

That means that Durant could amass four more points today.

Monday did not start well for Durant. Its No. 1 player, Shaun Young, lost to St. Thomas Aquinas' Andrew Taylor 6-4, 6-1. Vuckovic (No. 2) defeated Lakeland Jenkins' Chris Caswell 6-2, 6-3, but then fell to Naples' Chris Floyd 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.

At No. 3, Ryan Young stumbled to Naples' Andrew Roth 6-0, 7-6 (7-1). Henderson downed Rodrigo Segura of Choctawhatchee 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4, then beat East Lake's Geoff Gilchrist 7-5, 6-2. Henderson will play Albert Mercer of Naples this morning for the championship.

At No. 5, Whitford beat Naples' Matthew Connor 6-3, 6-2, then defeated Josh Molino of Aquinas 6-1, 6-4. Whitford will play Gregory Heartt of Flagler Palm Coast for thetitle.

In the opening round of the individual tournament at Lake Brantley High School, Plant's Eli Samaha lost to Martin Braun of Fort Walton Beach 0-6, 7-5, 6-0. King's Laura Gioia won 6-2, 6-0 against Land O'Lakes' Marcela Argollo.
