Nelson's show better than work of writer

© St. Petersburg Times
published April 24, 2002

Editor: Re: Nelson fans brave heat wave, by Jorge Sanchez, April 22 Times:

I was disappointed to read staff writer Jorge Sanchez's article about the concert.

We were fortunate to have this American icon perform for us here. Willie worked his butt off to entertain the audience.

Please have Sanchez stick to Times staff reporting so that Willie may come back.

Shooting cat in tree was indefensible

Editor: Re: Cat shooting may lead to firing, April 19 Times:

I must express my outrage and disgust at Animal Control director Hank Baggett with regard to his shooting of the cat.

There can be no reason or logic for his action.

To have such a person in charge of Citrus Animal Control is beyond belief. Baggett has been disciplined twice before by his superiors, and it makes one wonder how many other incidents he may have been involved in.

A salary of $45,300 for someone who apparently could not care less about animal welfare, and also concealed what he had done by allegedly lying?

There is only one correct outcome to the forthcoming investigation: Baggett should be terminated. Hopefully, all other animal lovers will be of the same opinion.

Will County Administrator Richard Wesch try to come up with some lame excuse for Baggett's action?

If this is the case, then it will be more than obvious that "the Citrus County and Inverness good old boy system" will have worked its magic.

Official's letter demonstrates hypocrisy

Editor: Re: County works to keep environment in good shape, April 21 letter to the editor from Commissioner Josh Wooten:

In case any reader still believes in the tooth fairy and honesty in politics, I refer them to the letter by Commissioner Wooten, all about how "we are truly blessed with unique, amazing and awesome sights throughout Citrus County."

Yes, and didn't Commissioner Wooten vote for the condominiums on the Halls River?

Won't they be an amazing sight!
