Feverish film festival

Festival in Cannes (PG-13) (99 min.) -- Henry Jaglom's improvised, talky, often scattershot movies can seem like either juicy verite bits of modern life or amateurish attempts to depict real human behavior with all the insight of a third-rate Robert Altman.

Festival in Cannes is a rambling ensemble piece that never quite gels. Jaglom's ode to the annual ritual on the French Riviera is his Stardust Memories: at once homage to and satire of the inanities of the movie business.

The film features a few delightful performances, most notably from screen legends Anouk Aimee and Maximilian Schell, who seem to be having the most fun.
