1. The Cat's Meow -- Director Peter Bogdanovich makes a solid comeback with a 1924 celebrity scandal, enacted by a fine ensemble cast including Kirsten Dunst and Edward Herrmann.

2. Changing Lanes -- Smartly produced thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Affleck as motorists whose minor accident produces major consequences.

3. The Rookie -- Late-blooming pitcher Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid) beats the odds to become a middle-age major-league rookie for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

4. Y Tu Mama Tambien -- Oversexed teenagers escort a sultry housewife to a beach paradise. Graphic sexuality will offend some viewers. Subtitled and not rated, but it should be NC-17.

5. The Scorpion King -- Yes, it's a slack time for good movies to recommend. However, The Rock is more fun to watch than Angelina Jolie, holding us over until Spider-Man swings into town next week.
