Exhibit opens, batteries not included
By JORGE SANCHEZ, Times Staff Writer A playful exhibit, Florida Girls & Boys and Their Toys, is at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum at the Courthouse Square in Inverness. The exhibit, which features 30 framed photographs, an information panel and other objects, will be at the museum until April 30. The theme of the show is to recapture the magic of children playing with toys of yesteryear. Other items in the toys exhibit are a puppet theater, a toy trunk and a video of classic television toy commercials of the '50s and '60s. The Heritage Museum has also opened its newest permanent exhibit Making History: Highlighting the Past, Focusing on Our Future, in the Mary MacRae Gallery. The display features historical events and people that have made significant impact in the history of Citrus County. Articles in the exhibit date back to the early 1800s. Designed to be a chronological trip through local history, it has information on the Civil War, the birth of the county, the Florida land boom and a video of the clock tower. Coming in May will be a collection of the photographs of Clyde Butcher, who specialized in black and white studies of the Florida landscape. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Free admission. Call 341-6429. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
