Atkins recovering from cardiac arrest

Dr. Robert Atkins, who promotes a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet, said he's recovering from cardiac arrest caused by a heart infection.

The 71-year-old doctor said Thursday his illness "is in no way related to diet."

In a statement issued to the media and posted on his companies' Web site, Atkins said his heart stopped beating during breakfast at his Manhattan home on April 18. He was revived by an associate, taken to a hospital and released Wednesday.

"This was not a heart attack but a cardiac arrest related to an infection of the heart he has been suffering from for a few years," the statement said.

A spokeswoman, Melissa Sodolski, said Atkins was at home on Thursday and would be cutting back on travel for about a month.

Atkins is the author of a current paperback best seller, Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution.

Blake posts $1-million bail for bodyguard

Robert Blake posted $1-million bail for bodyguard Earle Caldwell, who is charged with conspiring to kill the actor's wife, Blake's lawyer said Friday.

"He's an employee and a friend, and Robert felt responsible for him," attorney Harland Braun said.

He said Caldwell, 46, was released from jail early Friday. He was not available for immediate comment.

Caldwell has said previously that Blake is innocent.

Blake, 68, is charged with murder, conspiracy and solicitation to murder his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, who was shot to death May 4, 2001. He remains jailed without bail.

Tribe votes boat captain off island

Tough, duplicitous lobster boat captain Zoe Zanidakis was revealed Thursday as the ninth person voted off CBS' reality TV hit Survivor: Marquesas. Zanidakis, 35, was the second person voted out since the game's two tribes merged into a single team, Soliantu -- leaving seven people to compete for the show's $1-million jackpot on Nuku Hiva, part of the Marquesas Islands near Tahiti.

Britain honors Irish actor Fiona Shaw

Celebrated Irish actor Fiona Shaw was honored by Britain for her work as a stage and film performer.

Shaw, regarded as one of the finest actors in the British theater, was made an honorary Commander of the Order of British Empire on Thursday.

Her performances have brought her renown on the London stage, and she has three times won the Olivier Award, Britain's equivalent of the Tony Award, for best actress.

But internationally she is most widely known now from the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone -- released in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- in which she played the young wizard's aunt.

"Fiona is widely respected as an actress of outstanding talent who has brought to life a rich variety of characters on stage, film and television. Her contribution particularly to the theater has been of inestimable value," Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell said as she presented the honor.

The award is honorary because Shaw is not British.

"Politically I feel it's a wonderful sign of the best fusion of both our countries -- it's fantastic for Ireland and an honor for Irish people," Shaw said.
