Citrus, led by Myesha Hollis, won five events to claim the Class 2A, Region 2 title Thursday at Starke Bradford.
Wins came from Hollis in the long jump and triple jump, Denise Jay in the 800 and the 4x400 (Amanda Yoder, Jay, Kelly King and Amber Presnick) and 4x800 (Presnick, Jay, Molly Heisner and Julia Schuy) relays. Hollis also qualified for state in the 100.
Other Citrus qualifiers were Jessica Brown (high jump), Andrea Burke (3,200), Danialle Coates (300 hurdles) and Katie Steelfox (pole vault).
Crystal River, which placed seventh, was led by Sally Neill, who qualified in the 3,200 and 4x800 (with Mandy Smelko, Stephanie Bodden, Laura Steepleton). The 4x400 relay (Ieshia Natteal, Bodden, Lisandra Vazquez and Jerrica Sawyer) was second.
On the boys side, Tony Lyons won the 1,600 and 3,200 and was on the winning 4x800 relay, helping lead Citrus to a second-place finish behind Bradford. Norman Bauer won the discus, and C.J. Bryant took the 800.
Matt Baum (800, 1,600, 4x800), John Davila (pole vault), Jamaal Galloway (high jump) and Justin Macdonald (3,200) also qualified for state. Additionally, Bryant qualified in the 1,600 and 4x800.
Crystal River, which placed fifth, qualified Chris Bunch (400), Matt Hinman (shot), John McKethan (800), Billy Millian (pole vault) and Chianta Smith (triple jump) along with the 4x400 (Bunch, McKethan, Millian and Ryan McNally) and 4x800 (McKethan, Bunch, Clayton Bristol and Joey Eiola) relays.
Two-time state runner-up Shawn Allen won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches to lead Seven Rivers Christian to 10th place Thursday at the Class A, Region 2 meet.
Allen also was fourth in the long jump and on the Warriors' second-place 4x400 relay along with Damian Lyons, Jesse Woods and Chris Roth.
The Seven Rivers Christian girls placed sixth and qualified six for state.
Seventh-grader Taylor Cooke was second in the 1,600, third in the 3,200 and on the winning 4x800 relay with Rachel Ebert, Cassidy Rash and Karissa Gandee.
Also, Ebert and Gandee qualified in the 800. The 4x400 relay team (Rachel Capra, Bethany Woods, Rash and Gandee) was fourth.
