LAND O'LAKES -- Pasco County sheriff's deputies pulled two people from a car Friday morning in the Wal-Mart parking lot: an overheated baby and her mother, who was passed out after using crack, they said.
The baby -- who is listed as both 2 months old and 3 months old in the deputy reports -- was strapped into a car seat in direct sunlight, deputies said. She was red-faced and sweaty with a soiled diaper, deputies said.
Deputies could not awaken the girl's mother until they pulled her from the car, they said. Mother Jessica Lynn Bothwell, 19, of 8030 Belcher Lane in Land O'Lakes, was arrested, deputies said. She faces charges of theft/possession of stolen property, child neglect, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine. Her boyfriend and the baby's father, Glennis Antonio Mobley, 29, faces a charge of theft/possession of stolen property, deputies said.
The baby was given water and a new diaper. She was taken from her parents by deputies who said they would find an emergency home placement.
The deputies who found the girl were looking for a stolen car.
Bothwell's mother told deputies Tuesday that her 1991 Chevrolet Corsica was missing from her Dade City home. She said Bothwell and Mobley probably took it. She told them that Mobley worked at Wal-Mart in Land O'Lakes. A deputy spotted the car in the parking lot Thursday about 11 a.m. and a woman in the lot told him there was a baby crying inside the car, deputy reports state. They also found a crack pipe in the car, they said. Deputies found Mobley inside Wal-Mart trying to pick up his paycheck, according to the reports.
Mobley was being held Saturday at county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $250 bail. Bothwell was being held in lieu of $7,750 bail.
