Fitness event to stress importance of exercise

Come and join in at the Huff N' Puff Fitness Frolic, an event to highlight the importance of fitness for people with disabilities, from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. May 4 at the new Boca Ciega Millennium Park, 6990 125th St. N, Seminole.

Local celebrities will be on hand to race on hand-crank bicycles. There will be live music, fitness demonstrations, free food and a raffle. Bring your scooter, bicycle, hand-crank, wheelchair or sneakers. Registration is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and events start at 11 a.m. For information or to pre-register, call 577-0065.

Guardian Ad Litem training course set

The Guardian Ad Litem Program will offer a five-week training class from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning Tuesday at 14250 49th St., Clearwater. The program provides volunteers that make recommendations to the court system when there is an allegation of abuse, neglect or abandonment of a child younger than 18. For information, call 464-6528.

County news, schedules available through e-mail

Pinellas County's Department of Public Affairs is offering a new automated subscription service.

Each Friday subscribers will receive free e-mail updates with the next week's meeting schedule, Pinellas 18 television schedule, Board of County Commissioner's agenda and the latest county news.

Tampa Bay Interstates, a program of the State of Florida Department of Transportation, provides a Web site that includes updates on construction activity and lane closures on local interstates.

The user-friendly site also provides links to transportation sites nationwide, sign-up for e-mail updates, feedback surveys on the interstate projects and photos of planned construction projects.

New voting machines available for try-out

Be prepared for the next election. The new touch-screen voting machines are now available to try out.

Learn about volunteering for hospice at orientation

The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast offers orientation class for people interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities. The hospice needs volunteers in a variety of areas. Office support is especially needed in the central service center in Largo. The hospice also has a special program that enables high school students to make hospice volunteering a part of their educational experience. Hospice services include end-of-life medical care, emotional counseling and spiritual support. Learn about the law in free classes at SPC

CLEARWATER -- The annual People's Law School series, sponsored by the Clearwater Bar Association, continues through May 23. All the classes are free, and registration is not necessary. People may attend as many classes as they want. Classes will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. in the teaching auditorium on the Clearwater campus of St. Petersburg College, 2465 Drew St. Classes are listed below. Volunteers needed for mentoring programs

CLEARWATER -- Gulf Coast Community Care needs volunteers for two of its programs.

Linking Lifetimes matches adults age 30 and older with a child from a single-parent, low-income home.

The Adopt-A-Grandchild program needs adults age 55 and older to volunteer at least two to four hours a week for an infant or child up to 16 years old.

No experience is necessary for either program. Training is provided by Gulf Coast Community Care, 14041 ICOT Blvd., Clearwater. To sign up or for information, call 538-7460, ext. 3019 or ext. 3192.
