NEW PORT RICHEY -- A supervisor at the Boys and Girls Club of Pasco County was arrested Friday night after a 10-year-old girl said he fondled her, according to police.
But police said the man's interaction with the girl has nothing to do with the Boys and Girls Club. He was a family friend of the girl, who said she was scared of him, according to New Port Richey Officer Derrick Thivener, who made the arrest.
Anthony Louis Roberts, 21, of 5543 Executive Drive, No. B4, faces a charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under the age of 16, police said.
Carl Miller of the Boys and Girls Club said he learned of Roberts' arrest Saturday morning from a Times reporter. Roberts and Miller both work at the club at 8239 Youth Lane in Port Richey.
"The issue will be dealt with first thing Monday morning," Miller said.
He referred questions to Steve Luikart, the president of the Boys and Girls Club board. Luikart could not be reached for comment.
The 10-year-old girl told police that Roberts has hugged her from behind and run his hands across her chest over her clothing, Thivener said.
Police did not give an exact location where the incidents took place.
Thivener said he is also investigating other statements by the girl and her 11-year-old friend, a boy. Thivener said the boy and girl both told him that Roberts has had naked pictures on his computer while they were in his apartment. The girl also said Roberts rubbed her hair and told her she was pretty, according to Thivener.
The girl recently told another family friend to hide her from Roberts because she was scared of him and the way he touched her, Thivener said.
The girl's mother called police on Friday. She declined to comment on Saturday.
"It's a bad time," she said.
Roberts was being held Saturday afternoon at county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $10,000 bail.
