Planners okay development on horse farm

PINELLAS PARK -- Redevelopment of a large horse farm into apartments and estate-style homes got another green light Thursday, despite the pleas of neighbors who feared that existing drainage problems would get worse.

The Pinellas Park Planning and Zoning Board unanimously approved the project, which will include 130 apartments on 62nd Avenue N, the present home of Millbrooke Station Stables. Sixteen single-family "horse properties" are planned for the southern portion of the site.

If the City Council concurs with the board's decision at its June 27 meeting, architect Randolph Wedding said site development for the estate portion of the project should begin by September. He had no time line for the apartment complex but said horse owners would be given plenty of notice to vacate Millbrooke.
