By AMY WIMMER, Times Staff Writer Youth fishing tournament setMADEIRA BEACH -- The John's Pass Village Merchants Association and Don's Dock are sponsoring the Sixth Annual Young Anglers Inshore Fishing Tournament, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Competitors are asked to meet at Don's Dock on the east end of the boardwalk, 215 Boardwalk Place in Madeira Beach. With the registration fee, anglers will receive a tournament T-shirt, bait bucket filled with fishing items, bait, a box lunch and soda and raffle tickets for prizes. Age divisions are age 5 and under, who will pay $10 for registration; 6- to 10-year-olds, $15; and 11- to 15-year-olds, $15. GulfportThe city will have two public meetings to get suggestions on its 49th Street Corridor Community Redevelopment Plan. City officials and an architectural firm will receive ideas on a planned redesign of the area bounded by 49th Street on the east, from the northern city boundary at the Pinellas Trail south to Gulfport Boulevard, 52nd Street to the west, and Tangerine Avenue between 54th and 49th streets, including city property at 117 49th St. S. The meetings will be at 5:15 p.m. May 15 and 8:30 a.m. May 18 in the cafeteria of Hamilton Disston School, 5125 11th Ave. S. For details, call Susanne Hicks in the city public services department. * * * The Gulfport Optimist Club and the Gulfport Police Department are sponsoring a Bike Rodeo and Safety Fair, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 25. Free activities include a children's bike rodeo, a seat belt simulator ride called "The Convincer," drawings for bicycle helmets and locks, children's fingerprinting, bike registrations, bike safety inspections, police station tours, child car seat instruction and more. The event will take place at Gulfport City Hall, 2401 53rd St. S. * * * The Gulfport Waterfront District offers live music and refreshments on the first Friday and third Saturday of each month at the Gulfport Artwalk. Free parking is available, as well as free trolley service. For information, contact Tracey Jackson at 328-9790. The Gulfport Waterfront District is on Beach Boulevard. Treasure IslandThe city's Sun, Sand & Symphony, featuring the Tampa Bay Symphony, will take place at 7:30 p.m. May 25 on the beach at Gulf Boulevard and 104th Avenue. A pre-show performance by Night Shift, sponsored by the Treasure Island civic associations, will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 6 p.m. A fireworks display will take place after the symphony concert. The event is free to the public, and food and beverage concessions will be provided by the civic associations of Treasure Island. A limited number of tables for six, where beverages and light appetizers will be served, are available at a cost of $150 per table. For information, call the Treasure Island Recreation Department at 547-4575. * * * The city of Treasure Island is sponsoring the 13th annual Hurricane Awareness Program at 7 p.m. May 29 at the Treasure Island City Hall Auditorium, 120 108th Ave. Presentation topics will include the dangers of hurricanes, hurricane preparedness, evacuation, recovery operations and restoration of utilities, lessons learned from past hurricanes, the Community Emergency Response Team and Emergency Radio Communications Organization volunteers. Representatives from Emergency Management, American Red Cross, and area vendors will be on hand to provide disaster preparedness information. Refreshments will be served following the program. * * * The American Master Cup Competition for sand sculptors will be May 17-19 at the County Park, 104th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard. The times are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday; noon to 9 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Hosts for the event will be Dan Doubleday and Meredith Corson, current world doubles champions and owners of Sanding Ovations, a local sand sculpting business. Indian Rocks BeachApplications are available for the Beach Art Center's summer Creative Arts Camp. The camp will run from June 10 to July 26, except for the week of July 4. Children ages 8 to 12 will explore American art history through activities such as drawing, painting, 3-D art, fiber art, sculpture and more. The program runs from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays. The fee is $70 per week including all materials and a snack. Children may attend one week or more. In addition to the Creative Arts Camp, children's pottery classes will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Students will learn various hand-building techniques with clay. The fee is $24 per week plus a $7 materials fee to cover clay, glazes and firing. Call 596-4331 for applications, registration and information. Enrollment is limited. The Beach Art Center is at 1515 Bay Palm Blvd., next to City Hall, in Indian Rocks Beach. Redington ShoresThe Annual Town Cleanup will be Saturday. All residents are invited to participate. Everything will be picked up except hazardous waste materials, 55-gallon drums, tires and car batteries. The town encourages residents to place items on the curb the evening of May 10 for early morning pickup the next day. South PasadenaMay 31 is the deadline for students who are high school graduates and residents of South Pasadena to apply for the city's annual scholarship award. Applicants must have lived in South Pasadena for the past four years, earned high grades, been accepted to an accredited college or university, and have need of financial assistance.
