EASTSIDE ELEMENTARY: The school's K-Kids, a student service club, will hold a dedication ceremony today at 9:30 a.m. to unveil the school's Memory Garden, which is dedicated to the victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Members of the community are invited to attend.

PREKINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: The following elementary schools will hold early prekindergarten registration on the following days:

Friday, Moton Elementary (10 a.m.-1 p.m.); May 23, District Office (4-6 p.m.) and May 30, District Office (4-6 p.m.). Parents should bring the child's birth certificate, proof of residency, income verification, child's Social Security card, plus Medicaid card and WAGES eligibility letter if applicable.

WEST HERNANDO MIDDLE: The band will present its spring concert May 16 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Admission is free and open to the public.

HERNANDO HIGH: The Royale Regiment Band will present its Kaleidoscope spring concert May 17-18 at 7:30 p.m the performing arts hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

SPRINGSTEAD HIGH: The school will hold its academic and extra-curricular awards program May 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the theater.

PINE GROVE ELEMENTARY: The school advisory council meets May 16 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the media center.

WEST HERNANDO MIDDLE: The drama club will present a series of one-act plays May 21 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. The presentation is free and open to the public.

MOTON ELEMENTARY: The school will hold its kindergarten roundup Tuesday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the family center. For information call 797-7065.

CENTRAL HIGH: The school will hold its achievement awards ceremony May 16. Reception begins at 6 p.m. with the awards presentation at 7.

NEWSMAKERS:

Powell Middle eighth-grader Christian Schneider was recently recognized as a national award winner in leadership and service by the United States Achievement Academy. Each year the academy honors individuals who exercise leadership, academic performance, responsibility and citizenship.

Central High seniors Maigan Flateau and Cindy Zurawsky have been named National Merit Scholars for 2002. Each will be receiving $24,000 scholarships to the University of Florida.

Hernando High senior Jennifer Kirkpatrick has been nominated for the 2001-02 Principal's Leadership Award, sponsored by Herf Jones Inc.
