    Vegas Casino Night benefits deaf services

    CLEARWATER -- Clearwater Breakfast Sertoma Club is sponsoring a "Vegas Casino Night" Saturday at the Harborview Center, 300 Cleveland St., to benefit the Friends of the Deaf Service Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and includes hors d'oeuvres and $5,000 in play chips. Grand prize of the evening is three nights at the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas for two people, plus air fare.

    Proceeds will support the programs and services of the Deaf Service Center, a nonprofit organization that helps more than 260,000 deaf and hard of hearing people in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.

    Fishing tourney benefits the YMCA

    CLEARWATER -- The YMCA of the Suncoast is hosting a fishing tourney Saturday to benefit the Clearwater Branch YMCA. The "Island Way Flats Fishing Tournament" will take place from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. The tourney will be in four divisions -- amateur adult male, amateur adult female, junior fishermen and professional guide. Participants will fish for redfish, snook, trout and tarpon.

    Registration is at the Clearwater Branch YMCA. 1005 S Highland Ave. Cost is $50 a person. For information, call the Y at 461-9622.

    Hazardous materials collection is Saturday

    LARGO -- Old unwanted electronics and chemicals will be collected from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Home Depot at 10475 Ulmerton Road, Largo. Items that can be disposed of at the mobile collection site include automotive fluids, household cleaners, household batteries, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, marine flares, pool chemicals, paints, paint thinners, paint remover, fluorescent lamps and mercury-containing devices, computers, televisions and other electronics. For a full list of materials that can be accepted, contact Pinellas County Utilities at 464-4000.

    The mobile collection is sponsored by Pinellas County Utilities, the city of Largo and the Home Depot. Businesses with chemical waste should contact US Liquids at (813) 623-5302, ext. 231. Businesses with electronic waste should contact Creative Recycling at (813) 621-2319.

    Synchronized swim team to perform at rec center

    LARGO -- Suncoast WaterWorks synchronized swim team will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Southwest Recreation Center pool, 13120 Vonn Road, Largo. Tickets at the gate, which opens at 6:30 p.m., are $10 for adults and $5 for children. The team, sponsored by the Largo Parks and Recreation Department, performs throughout the year and around the country.

    For anyone interested in trying synchronized swimming, there will be a clinic from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the pool. Cost is $7 a person and participants will receive free tickets to the water show.
