San Antonio backs honor for war victimsBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published May 9, 2002 SAN ANTONIO -- City commissioners have given their blessing to a proposed stone marker that would honor town residents who died in wars. Commissioners on Tuesday agreed to support resident Eric Herrmann's bid to raise money for the stone marker, which would be placed at the entrance to town near a small grove of pine trees planted in honor of seven fallen veterans in December. Herrmann said the more permanent marker and a flag would remind passers-by of the sacrifices residents made for freedom. San Antonio Citizens Federal Credit Union made the first pledge of $500. The city will have the option of one of two markers, Herrmann said. The marker would cost $450 to $900 plus a fee per letter. Herrmann said, currently there are seven residents recognized as victims of war, but a review shows there might be a few names that have been left off the list. Anyone wishing to contribute may call City Hall at (352) 588-2127. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
