Theatrical summer camps offered
By JORGE SANCHEZ, Times Staff Writer Two theaters are sponsoring summer workshops designed to develop students' interests in drama and modeling: The Citrus County Art League is offering a 10-week hands-on workshop for high school and college age students. Students will learn all aspects of staging two major productions: lighting, stage and sound design, costumes, makeup, props and acting. The workshop will end with the public performances of two Shakespeare plays, The Merry Wives of Windsor and Richard III. Auditions and registration will be held at 7 p.m. May 20-21 at the art league, 2644 N Anapolis Ave., Hernando. Practices will begin in June and will be held on alternating nights. All participants must be available for performances July 26-28, Aug. 2-4 and Aug. 9-11. Cost is $50 and includes script, T-shirt, use of costumes, props, administrative costs and training. (Past Shakespeare alumni may apply for internships and have the fee waived.) Space is limited. No acting experience is required. Call Pat Lewkowicz at 746-4624. The Citrus Performing Arts Center will have a three-week children's camp. The program will emphasize getting a jump start on a theater career. Instructors Barbara Balser, Nancy Kraus and Becky Ickstadt will teach acting, musical comedy, dance, voice, stage modeling, TV acting or production, staging, costumes, puppet theater, arts and crafts, and microphone techniques. The camp will end with an evening production, with every camper getting a moment in the spotlight. Camp will be held June 10-28, 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Performing Arts Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. for working parents. Cost is $230 and includes all supplies to pay for the show at the end of the session. It is open to students ages 6 and up. Children will work with their own age groups. Students need to bring a sack lunch, sweater and a big towel. Call Barbara Balser at 726-5757 or 344-4422 to reserve a place. The Citrus Performing Arts Center is on Carter Street in Inverness.
