Man, 67, charged with assaulting wife, deputy

ZEPHYRHILLS -- Pasco County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday arrested a 67-year-old man who they say pointed a .357-caliber revolver at his wife and later threatened to shoot at deputies before a SWAT team arrested him.

About 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Robert Dalton of 36430 Cherrywood Lane in Zephyrhills went in the bedroom where he confronted his wife, Nancy, reports stated.

Nancy Dalton gave deputies the following account: She said her husband grabbed her by her arms and told her that she was going to have sex with him. She said she pulled away and left the room.

Robert Dalton followed her and pulled the revolver, pointing it at her, she said. She grabbed his arm and he pulled the trigger, but she said the gun didn't go off because it wasn't loaded, according to reports.

Nancy Dalton said she grabbed a portable phone, fled the house and called police.

When deputies arrived, they found Robert Dalton sitting in a chair with the revolver in his hand and the cylinder open. Deputies could see at least one bullet loaded into the cylinder.

They said Dalton rotated the cylinder to line up the bullet with the barrel. He was ordered to drop the gun several times but refused, they said. Later, he cocked the hammer of the gun and said he would shoot one deputy's flashlight if he didn't turn it off.

Deputies backed out of the house and called the SWAT team, which later arrested Dalton. They confiscated the gun, which had two bullets loaded in it.

Dalton faces charges of domestic battery, aggravated assault and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

He was taken to the county jail in Land O'Lakes, where he remained Thursday without bail.

"In light of what's been going on, they did the right thing," Sgt. Ray Stanley said.

Deputies left the bag at the office, 10600 License Lane, to be reclaimed.
