    Ulmer Park Picnic scheduled for today

    Largo's fourth annual Ulmer Park Picnic is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m today. The park is downtown. Activities include crafts and games for children, a Largo Smuppet show at 11 a.m., as well as live music and box lunches for $3. Florida Blood Services van will be on site for donations. All donors will received a T-shirt, a wellness checkup, including a cholesterol screening and a buy-one, get-one-free coupon from the Florida Aquarium.

    Synchronized swim team to perform

    Suncoast WaterWorks synchronized swim team will perform at 7:30 p.m. today at the Southwest Recreation Center pool, 13120 Vonn Road. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. The team, sponsored by the Largo Parks and Recreation Department, performs throughout the year around the country at such cities at Baltimore, Seattle, San Francisco and Detroit. Anyone interested in trying synchronized swimming can attend a clinic from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the pool. The cost is $7 a person and participants will receive free tickets to the water show.

    Recycling program set at Home Depot

    Old unwanted electronics and chemicals will be collected from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Home Depot at 10475 Ulmerton Road, Largo. Among the items accepted: automotive fluids, household cleaners, household batteries, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, marine flares, pool chemicals, paints, paint thinners, paint remover, fluorescent lamps and mercury-containing devices, computers, televisions and other electronics. For a full list of materials that can be accepted, contact Pinellas County Utilities at 464-4000. The mobile collection is sponsored by Pinellas County Utilities, the city of Largo and Home Depot. Businesses with chemical waste should contact US Liquids at (813) 623-5302, ext. 231. Businesses with electronic waste should contact Creative Recycling at (813) 621-2319.
