Top 10 young women chosenBy AMY SCHERZER, Times Staff Writer© St. Petersburg Times published May 12, 2002 Ten "Young Women of Promise" were presented at an Athena Society dinner May 2 at the Centre Club in Tampa. The women's club selected these high school juniors from 34 nominations submitted by guidance counselors at 19 schools. Here are just some of their accomplishments: Triathlete Teresa Zambrano, Academy of HolyNames, is a cadet commander of the Civil Air Patrol. Ramani Singh Rasile, Wharton High School, founded a Social Issues Club and a mentoring program for challenged fourth- and fifth-graders. Rachel Malkowski, Sickles High School, participated in a Presidential Classroom World Leadership Summit. Anupama (Anu) Kotha, King High School, 2001 Outstanding Volunteer by the Mayor's Youth Advisory Group, logged 600 hours as a Moffitt Cancer Center volunteer.
