Military newsBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published May 13, 2002 Army Pvt. Noel Lopez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid, and Army values, principles and traditions. Lopez is a 2001 graduate of Florida High School, Tampa, and the son of Paula Santiago, Springfield, Mass. Army Pvt. Timothy R. Stroud, has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions. During infantry training, he developed basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experienced using various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman. Stroud is a 1995 graduate of East Bay High School, and the son of Robert Stroud, Riverview. Shana J. William, has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year. The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty. William is a 1997 graduate of Brandon High School and the daughter of Ernestine R. and Earl I. Johnson, Brandon. Army Pvt. Joseph A. Gates, has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the eight weeks of training, the soldier will study the Army mission and will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history and tradition, and special training in human relations. Gates is a 2001 graduate of Walter L. Sickles High School, Tampa, and the son of Debbie Gates, Tampa, and Vince Gates, Clearwater. Army Reserve Pvt. Ryan A. Agostinis has arrived at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., to complete basic military training. During the eight weeks of training, the trainee will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions. Agostinis is a 2001 graduate of H.B. Plant High School, and the son of Karen and Reno Agostinis, Tampa. Army National Guard Pvt. Teresa M. Calderon has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, she received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid, and Army values, principles and traditions. Calderon is the daughter of Rosa Marrero, Tampa. Army Sgt. Santiago Giraldo has arrived at Eskan Village, Saudi Arabia, to serve as a member of Joint Task Force-Southwest Asia in support of Operation Southern Watch. The operation is a multinational effort that conducts flying missions to ensure and enforce Irag's compliance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions enacted after the end of the Persian Gulf War in 1991. The U.S. contingency and coalition forces assist in monitoring the no-fly and no-drive zones to prohibit Iraqi military flights and ground troop movements in the southern half of Iraq. Giraldo is a field artillery surveyor normally assigned to Headquarters Battery, 2nd Air Defense Artilley at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. He has served in the military for five years. He is the son of Nobia S. Patterson, Tampa. Army Pvt. Sarah L. Rettig has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the eight weeks of training, she will study the Army mission and will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history and tradition, and special training in human relations. She is a 1997 graduate of Brandon High School and the daughter of Kathy Kalina, Seffner. Air Force Airman 1st Class Ryan M. Muha has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Muha is a 2001 graduate of Bloomingdale Senior High School, Valrico, and the son of Shaun and Otto Muha, Valrico. Air Force Airman Brian E. Perez has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, he studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Perez is a 1997 graduate of Leto High School, Tampa, and the nephew of Diana Baio, Tampa. Army Staff Sgt. Randall E. Joseph Bugel has graduated from the light-wheel vehicle mechanic advanced individual training course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He was trained to perform maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair wheeled vehicles and related mechanical components, including suspension systems, internal combustion engines and power trains, wheel-hub assemblies, hydraulic brake and steering systems, and operate a wheeled vehicle crane, hoist, and winch assemblies. Bugel is a 1998 graduate of Plant High School, Tampa, and the son of Cynthia S. and Edward J. Bugel, Tampa. Air Force Airman Terrance A. Motgomery has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Motgomery is a 2001 graduate of Howard W.
