In the newsBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published May 16, 2002 Bobbitt out of "Boxing'John Wayne Bobbitt is out of Celebrity Boxing II after being arrested when his wife accused him of pushing her. Bobbitt, 35, was jailed Monday night in Las Vegas for investigation of battery and domestic violence, a probation violation, police Sgt. Chris Darcy said. A Nevada judge placed Bobbitt on five years probation in 1999 after he pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny. Bobbitt's wife of two months, Joanna, told police her husband pushed her to the ground when she told him she didn't want to go to Los Angeles for Wednesday's Celebrity Boxing taping. She called police from a hospital, where she was treated for a broken tailbone and finger. John Bobbitt was arrested shortly thereafter and is free on $5,000 bail. Bobbitt was to take on Joey Buttafuoco in a Celebrity Boxing bout scheduled to air May 22 on Fox. He was replaced by former World Wrestling Federation star Joanie Laurer, also known as Chyna. Allen honored at CannesWoody Allen was honored with a special achievement award at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday as the world's top film fest kicked off its annual confab of glitz, art, dealmaking and partying. Allen, 66, fidgeted on the stage of Cannes' grand Lumiere Theater as a black-tie crowd gave him a prolonged standing ovation and he was awarded the Palm of Palms, which had been given once before, to Ingmar Bergman. Accepting the award, Allen joked about France's fondness for him, saying the French have two misconceptions: "that I'm an intellectual, because I wear these glasses, and that I'm an artist, because my films lose money all the time." © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
