The votes are in and the county's coaches have selected the Sunshine Athletic Conference's best athletes of the spring season.

River Ridge dominated the softball selections like it was just another game, earning six first-team selections and coach and player of the year honors.

Senior pitcher/second baseman Christine Beck was named player of the year and father Ernie was coach of the year after the Royal Knights won the conference title and made it to the Class 4A state championship game, losing 1-0 to Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas.

Centerfielder Adrienne Cicirello, third baseman Jill Hrovoski, rightfielder Stephanie Seaman, shortstop Stefanie Simon and pitcher Kiki Von Holt joined them on the first team.

Ridgewood's Class 4A state semifinalist baseball team landed four on the first team, led by pitcher of the year Ronny Lowe. Pitcher Richie Hittel, catcher Monte Werner and first baseman Danny Lotz are also first-teamers.

Pasco's Lee Cruz was voted player of the year and Pasco coach Ricky Giles and Hudson's Jack Ledbetter shared coach of the year honors.

Pasco's Keymo Pearson was voted boys track and field athlete of the year after he won the high, long and triple jumps at the conference meet. Wesley Capel first-year coach Brian "Stone" Colding was voted coach of the year after the Wildcats won the first conference and district titles in the program's history.

Ridgewood coach Sue Vien was girls track coach of the year, and the Rams' Jen Hayes and Wesley Chapel's Angela Medvid shared athlete of the year honors. Ridgewood won its 14th conference championship.

In tennis, Hudson's Juan Castaneda was voted boys conference player of the year over undefeated Gregg Strange of Mitchell by the coaches. River Ridge coach Paul Scolaro was named coach of the year after the Royal Knights won their first SAC title. Wesley Chapel's Cristina Lucin was the girls player of the year and River Ridge's Ron Spriggs was coach of the year after his squad also won the conference.

Zephyrhills' Josh Harrington and River Ridge's Alyssa Robinson were voted the weightlifters of the year.
