Kid car seat stickers to aid rescue workers
By RYAN DAVIS, Times Staff Writer The Pasco County Sheriff's Office launched a program Wednesday that will help rescue workers know what to do with young children whose parents are killed or seriously injured in crashes. At eight sites across the county, parents can pick up stickers to affix to their child's car seat. One sticker goes on the side of the seat and lets rescuers know about the sticker on the back. That sticker, which is about 4 by 4 inches, has spaces for the child's name, address, mother's name, father's name, doctor's number and another person to contact. Sheriff's crime prevention specialist Tony Wilim said it will help rescue workers who don't know where to take a child after the child's parents are killed or injured in a wreck. Currently, rescuers use the car license plate number to try to track down relatives or neighbors. "It makes it a little easier on the first responders," Wilim said. "My goal is for every car seat in the county to have one." People can get the free stickers at the following locations: Sheriff's Office in Dade City, 37312 Howard Ave.; any day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; (352) 521-5100, ext. 5167.
