Penny and Jay Ruilova call Minnows and Monsters the "Cracker Barrel" of tackle shops, featuring anything a fisherman needs. But custom rods are their claim to fame. Jay affixes foam handles and grips, and a reel seat. Penny customizes each rod with colorful threads, decals, logos and guides under an epoxy seal. Prices range from $140 to $500 for a "rod that lasts forever," she says. Minnows and Monsters, 3811 S. Manhattan Ave.; 835-1512.
