Journey to space at MOSI
IMAX at MOSI launches its showing of "Space Station," a documentary of the International Space Station. The film follows a team of astronauts and cosmonauts from Kennedy Space Center and Russia's Baikonur Cosmodrome as they journey to the permanent laboratory, 220 miles into space. The space station emerged from a partnership of 16 countries committed to studying long-term effects of zero gravity and steps needed to get to Mars. Tom Cruise narrates. The films shows Saturday and Sunday, 12:15, 3 and 5 p.m. and runs through Nov. 21. Tickets are $13.95 for adults, $11.95 for seniors and $9.95 for children. For information, call 987-6100.
The Hackensaw Boys are coming to Skipper's toting a washboard, spoons, dobro, mandolin and other instruments. The boys hail from the foothills of Charlottesville, Va., and perform traditional and original foot-stomping songs. Southern Lite opens the evening of bluegrass at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $7. The Friends of the Austin Davis Library invite the public to join library staff and volunteers in its "Swing into Spring," evening of dinner and music. The swing band, 23 Skidoo Band, will perform tunes from the 40s and 50s as well as take requests, and organizers are pushing aside tables for dance space. The dinner is held in appreciation of library staff and the Austin Davis family. Ciccio & Tony's is catering the buffet-style dinner.
