By Times staff writer Who's newsMaria Jimenez, office manager for Dr. Pariksith Singh in Spring Hill, was recently honored for her quick thinking in response to a call she received at the office. May 9, at a meeting of the Spring Hill Fire Rescue Commission, Chairman Bob Kanner presented Jimenez with a certificate of appreciation for her role in preventing what could have been a terrible occurrence. The morning of March 19, Jimenez got a cell phone call from patient Teresa Josey. Josey was driving to a dentist appointment and felt ill. Josey experienced shortness of breath and swelling of her hands and was getting very nervous. Upon questioning Josey, Jimenez, an LPN, determined that Josey, who had just taken amoxicillin in preparation for a dental procedure, appeared to be having a drug reaction. Jimenez directed Josey to pull over and on another phone dialed 911. Paramedics rushed to treat Josey. "I believe that Maria's quick reaction averted what could have been another serious accident," Singh said. "We are all very proud of her and also very relieved that a catastrophe was prevented." * * * Dr. James Booker, a staff member at Hernando Endoscopy and Surgery Center and area hospitals, recently served as the course director and instructor for a "Minimally Invasive Breast Biopsy" course. The course, which was presented to physicians and mammography technicians on the use of the Mammatone Breast Biopsy System, was held April 13. The course was sponsored by Ethicon Endo-Surgery, the developers of the system. The system offers women facing a breast biopsy an alternative option that is minimally invasive and causes minimal scarring. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis at Oak Hill Hospital. -- If you have announcements you would like to share with our readers, mail the details to Teresa Burney, Business Digest, Hernando Times, 3233 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, FL 34606.
