Editor: This is to Pasco County Fire Rescue. I awoke this morning and was able to hold my wife in my arms. I was able to watch my cat, Rufus, prance across the living room floor. I spoke with family and friends on the telephone. I was able to walk outside and gaze at the beauty in a world blessed by our God.

I never would have been able to do this without you, the EMS crew that saved my life. I know you have many occasions in which you respond to life threatening situations, but just after midnight Friday, April 12, you came to my rescue. I know I faded in and out of reality much of the time, but still I could see your concerned, caring eyes as you worked so diligently, desperately and professionally to keep me alive.

I don't know your names, but I can still see your beautiful faces. Thank you a million times and thank God for having blessed you with the ability to do what you do, save lives. All of you deserve a "Gold Star" after your names in God's Book of Life.
-- Jeffrey L. Wolkins, New Port Richey

Editor: We needed to have several large oak trees trimmed and one very large, split tree removed. Like so many others, we let our fingers do the walking. We called Pasco Tree Service, received a very fair estimate and agreed on the job specifics.

We placed our trust in this company and arranged to have the work completed while we were to be at work. We arrived home to notice that the tree was indeed gone and the others were expertly trimmed, not a branch or twig left behind. However, what we did not expect, and found, was a 6 foot tall, 24-inch diameter section of the now removed tree tied in another tree. This huge piece of trunk was perched on a limb and tied very securely 8 feet up in the tree.

We were baffled, to say the least, and concerned with just how we could remove this without destroying the flower garden below it. We called Pasco Tree Service to inquire as to (1) did they realize they had left a substantial length of rope behind and (2) how or what should we do with the tree trunk perched in the other tree.

Their response left us deeply touched and thankful. We have an owl nest in that tree trunk, complete with 3 untouched eggs. They carefully removed and secured this very heavy birdhouse without hesitation. We now know that they do this routinely, and will return to remove it after the eggs have hatched. In this day of reduced customer service efforts and profit driven businesses, it amazed us to be the recipients of such above and beyond service, not just service, but true humanitarian effort. We want to thank Pasco Tree Service for their professional tree service and for their profound human service! They are to be commended and are highly recommended.

Editor: On March 24 at American Legion Post 173 in Holiday, Auxiliary Unit 173 held a successful event. During the course of ticket sales, and sales of red, white and blue ribbons, made by the Auxiliary, over $2,000 was raised. Patrons enjoyed a prime rib dinner and entertainment by Eddy Rivers with his impersonation of Elvis Presley.

During the dinner show, a check for $1,668, collected from the sale of the ribbons, was presented to the Pasco County Firefighters Benevolent Association in memory of the New York Firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11.

The remainders of profits from the dinner show were used for the Girls State Program that is held in Tallahassee annually during the month of June. Also receiving of the profits is the Veterans Administration and Rehabilitation Organization. This organization is greatly supported by Unit 173 throughout the year.

Many of the patrons donated items for Joshua House and this week 57 Easter baskets were made and delivered to the children.

Editor: I would like to thank the other Beacon Woods Board of Directors and Beacon Woods Garden Club for helping to keep an eye on and beautifying the Clock Tower Parkway and all the entrances of Beacon Woods.

When you take a ride along the parkway, you will notice new trees, plants and flowers. Thanks to all who have donated contributions for tree, flowers, etc., to beautify the named parkway. Keep up the good work, we want to keep Beacon Woods as one of the best places to live.

Editor: Not too long ago nine members of the Pasco Italian American Civic Club got together and decided to have a benefit dinner for the All Children's Hospital at the PIACC clubhouse on Maryland Avenue in Hudson. The benefit was held April 7 and was a huge success, thanks to the many people that supported us.

A delicious dinner was prepared by our members and was followed by an auction of 16 rare bottles of wine valued at over $500. These bottles were all donated by Mr. Joseph Albertelli. We raised several hundred dollars. Thank you, Joe. We really appreciated your donation. Our members and friends donated many bottles of wine and liquor and we were able to make up eight baskets of cheer, which were included in our raffle.

We also had many prizes that were donated by our local business people. The basic value of the raffle prices was well over $1,000. This raffle brought in many dollars from the people that attended. They all were extremely generous, knowing that their donations were for a good cause.

The cooking, preparation and serving the food, collection of tickets at the door, selling the raffle tickets, setting the tables, attending to the dessert table, the bartender (he donated all of his tips) and the cleaning of the tables was all done by volunteers. It was a lot of work. Without the volunteers this benefit would not have been possible. It's impossible to mention the names of all of them as there were just too many. The volunteers are all members of the PIACC and I'm sure our president Fred Del Gaudio is very proud of them. The benefit to All Children's Hospital was in excess of $2,500.

The committee wishes to thank all of the volunteers, the people that donated cash, the local business people for their great prizes and the people that attended (over 200) for their wonderful support in making this benefit for All Children's Hospital a tremendous success. Our donation is in excess of $2,500 -- a very tidy sum.

Editor: The Sand Pine Elementary School faculty, staff and PTA would like to thank our many community business partners that have been so generous and supportive throughout this school year. It is often these types of partnerships that make it possible to enhance many of our curricular objectives and goals. We appreciate all those who participated in our Great American Teach-In, McCrane Nights, support of our Teacher of the Year Celebrations, Accelerated Reader Celebration, Student Planner Sponsors, School Advisory Council, Star Student Recognition, Health Fair and many other helpful sponsorships. We are always looking for more partners. If you're interested, please call Ms. Pope at (727) 794-1900.
