The drive shaft broke on one of the 40-foot Fountain powerboat's two engines during the third of 14 laps around a 6-mile race course. "I was very disappointed and so was the crew," said Carter, 22, who owns the boat but is not driving it during the 2002 American Power Boat Association (APBA) racing season. "Things like this do happen. That's racing."
North Tampa water worries are overTAMPA -- Residents of Hunter's Green, West Meadows and Richmond Place near Bruce B. Downs Boulevard no longer have to boil their water. A 54-inch water main under Bruce B. Downs Boulevard south of Interstate 75 sprang a leak early Saturday, causing the city to issue a warning about boiling water. According to Sandra Anderson, the consumer affairs manager for the city of Tampa water department, the break may cause a snarl in traffic this morning. The cause of the break is unclear, officials said. Canisters cause scare at Port of TampaTAMPA -- Twelve canisters of nitrogen caused a bomb scare at the Port of Tampa Sunday morning. At 9:30 a.m., a Hillsborough sheriff's deputy spotted the canisters. He was unsure what they contained and knew they were not supposed to be sitting where they were, so the Tampa Bomb Squad, Tampa Fire Rescue and a hazardous materials team were called.
Authorities discovered the canisters were accidentally left in the wrong place by workers.
