Football frenzy off the field
It's always football season in Florida. If teams aren't playing, fans are talking about when play begins.
The Museum of Science and Industry taps into that football frenzy with a new exhibit on loan from the Arkansas Museum of Discovery. "Football: The Exhibit," where visitors can look at the science, math and technology of the game, will be at MOSI through Sept. 8.
The museum opens the exhibit with a big tailgate party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The lineup includes: Outback Steakhouse selling hamburgers to benefit MOSI from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; appearances by University of South Florida football coach Jim Leavitt and USF football players 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Florida Youth Football and Cheerleading Association cheerleaders 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tampa Bay Storm cheerleaders noon to 1 p.m.; and Tampa Bay Buccaneer cheerleaders 1 to 3 p.m.
The exhibit and the tailgate party are included in admission of $13.95 adults, $11.95 60 and older, $9.95 ages 2-12. The museum is at 4801 E Fowler Ave., Tampa. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. (813) 987-6100 or www.mosi.org.
