HappeningsBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published May 24, 2002 MEMORIAL DAY TRIBUTE: The Summit Swing Ensemble will present "Celebrate America," a musical tribute to the United States, at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive, south of East Bay Drive between Highland Avenue and Seminole Boulevard. The show will feature a presentation of the colors by the Civil Air Patrol and an appearance by the Clearwater Composite Squadron FL-043, Florida Wing, Group 8. The conductor's baton will be auctioned off, and the winner will have a chance to conduct the band while it plays Stars and Stripes Forever. Tickets cost $14, $6 for students. Call (727) 587-6793. CHILDREN'S PROGRAM: Horticulturist Cindy Peacock leads a wildflower identification and tour for children, ages 5 and up, at 10 a.m. Saturday beginning in the Palm Pavilion at the Florida Botanical Gardens, 12175 125th St. N. On the one-hour tour, Peacock will point out the wildflowers in the gardens and describe their growth characteristics and the importance of wildflowers. The children will learn how to press wildflowers and participate in a craft activity. Participants must bring a 4-inch flat rock for the craft activity. SUNSETS AT PIER 60: Celebrate the end of the day with a festival of arts, crafts and entertainment from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Pier 60 Pavilion on Clearwater Beach. Tonight, it's Shake (variety); Saturday, it's Mandalay (variety); Sunday, it's Deja Groove (funk and blues). Admission is free. PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT: Master photographer and teacher Anna Tomczak will show her powerful and innovative hand-colored images through June 29 in Gallery One at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo.
