County agrees to expand use of computer system

County agrees to expand use of computer system

The county's technology board unanimously agreed Thursday to a plan that would force staffers to expand the county's use of a $12-million computer database program. Officials decided five years ago to expand its use of software made by Oracle Corp. to the county's constitutional officers -- the sheriff, the property appraiser, the elections supervisor, tax collector and clerk of court. But records for most of those departments are still kept on antiquated databases, and some officers even purchased other software to update certain records. County Administrator Steve Spratt, a member of the technology board, recommended the plan, which will set specific deadlines and require technology department staffers to work at an "aggressive pace" to switch county data to Oracle.
