ZEPHYRHILLS -- A New Jersey developer plans to build 142 new homes on a 32-acre tract of land just north of Pretty Pond Road, between Wire Road and 16th Street, according to papers filed with Pasco County.
Developer David Waronker is asking the county to rezone the land from agricultural to planned unit development.
The area, which sits just east of Gore's Dairy, is becoming less agricultural all the time. Growth from Zephyrhills has inched steadily north from downtown. And just across U.S. 301 from the proposed development, construction on a new Wal-Mart Supercenter is supposed to be completed this fall.
The issue of the new development likely will make its way onto a County Commission agenda in July. Waronker could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.
Jeno Szakacs of Tampa has owned the tract of land for 25 years.
According to documents, developers plan to name the new neighborhood the Estate Homes of Hilltop.
