Signings

Shorecrest's Noel Wells has signed a merit scholarship to attend the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.

Wells, a three-time most valuable swimmer for the Chargers and two-time Times All-County honorable mention selection, will swim distance freestyle at the College of Wooster, which finished the season ranked No. 7 in Division III.

Swimming

The Suncoast Masters team, representing the YMCA of the Suncoast, recently finished sixth in the YMCA National Masters meet in Fort Lauderdale and three team members captured individual championships.

Don Puchalski won the men's 400 individual medley and 500 freestyle, Nancy Durstein won the women's 200 and 100 butterfly and Alex Ramirez-Miller finished first in the men's 200 freestyle. The meet drew more than 650 swimmers representing 79 YMCAs in 27 states.

Tae kwon do

Lynsey Crandall, a junior at St. Petersburg, recently won three gold medals and a silver in the junior and adult divisions at the state championships in Gainesville.

Crandall, 17, qualified for the national championships in Minneapolis in July.
