SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Former Notre Dame receiver Lorenzo Crawford had consensual sex with a student and was not involved in a gang rape, his lawyer said Wednesday.

Ken Cotter said while an affidavit submitted by prosecutors indicates Crawford admitted to rape, a videotaped statement shows Crawford said it was consensual.

The woman accused the players of luring her into a bedroom after she met former Irish safety Justin Smith at a bar and agreed to go with them to Smith's home.

Crawford, Smith, former safety Donald Dykes and former safety Abram Elam have been charged.

Crawford and Elam are scheduled to appear for an initial hearing today. Dykes was ordered to appear for a June11 hearing. Smith is scheduled to appear before a judge June7.

FSU: Point guard Ryan Lowery, whose chronic knee problems limited him to five games last season, has ended his career. He will remain in school, and coach Leonard Hamilton said he would like him to contribute to the program.

INDIANA: Less than a week after signing a new six-year contract, coach Mike Davis agreed to a $300,000 incentive clause. He will get $100,000 in the fourth, fifth and sixth years of the contract if he remains as coach.

BASEBALL: South Florida freshman catcher Devin Ivany is one of 28 freshmen and sophomores invited to the USA Baseball trials June 18-23 in Tucson, Ariz. Ivany is hitting .312 this season with 52 RBIs and a team-high 10 home runs. Florida State sophomore Tony Richie also was invited.

TRACK: Georgia's Andras Haklits won his third NCAA hammer title in Baton Rouge, La. Clemson's Jamine Moton won the women's hammer. LSU's Walter Davis won the long jump. North Carolina State's Kristin Price won the 10,000 meters. UCLA's Tracy O'Hara won her second pole vault title.

GOLF: Ben Portie shot 5-under 66 to lead Colorado before rain suspended the first round of the NCAA championship in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Colorado's 4-under 280 led the teams in the clubhouse. Arizona was next at 282 followed by Florida, TCU and Toledo at 283.
