Player disqualified for misrepresenting average

Dennis Yee was disqualified from the ABC Championships Tournament at Billings, Mont., last week for misrepresenting his average.

Two weeks ago, Yee took the Classified (below 180 average) all-events lead with a 2,032 pinfall, his score noted with an asterisk for "average under review." Yee also teamed with Joe Hui for the Classified doubles lead at 1,345. His team, Yee Invitational, also was the Classified team leader at 2,952.

ABC officials were suspicious of Yee's credentials since his scores were listed with asterisks. The individual scores of Yee's teammates were not affected.

GHC Mechanical Inc. moved into the Classified team lead with a 2,844 pinfall. Tom Mangan and Ralph Spencer grabbed the doubles lead at 1,266, and Bob Winston is still the singles leader with a 695 series.

Bruno's Pizza No. 1 leads the Regular (above 180 average) team standings with a 3,473 and Mark Millsap is the singles leader with a 823 series. Chris Warren and Fred Mattson are the doubles leaders at 1,534.

FELDMAN, ADLER WIN: Michelle Feldman won the St. Clair Shores (Mich.) Classic on May 16 for her ninth career Professional Women's Bowling Association title and $10,000.

Feldman was the top seed and stopped Cocoa's Kim Adler 211-206 for the title. Adler, second two weeks ago at the WIBC Queens, earned $5,500. Wendy Macpherson was third and earned $3,800; Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, the 2001 Player of the Year, was fourth for $3,000, and Kim Terrell, the newly crowned Queens winner, was fifth and earned $2,500.

Adler defeated Macpherson 200-196 in the semifinals after Macpherson beat Dorin-Ballard and Terrell 237-181-170 in the shootout.

Adler came back last week to capture the St. Clair Classic and $10,500 at Fairview Heights, Ill., her third consecutive championship appearance and 15th tour title. Adler entered the finals as the top seed. Her week consisted of 40 to 42 games above the 200 the tour uses as "par." High scores were a theme as players shot four 800-plus series and four 300 games.

Adler defeated Cara Honeychurch 226-216, leaving Honeychurch with a $5,800 check. Honeychurch gained the finals by beating Tiffany Stanbrough and Kendra Gaines 191-189-182 in the shootout. Tenelle Grijalva fell to Honeychurch 279-238 in the semifinals. Grijalva earned $4,000 for third, Stanbrough $3,200 and Gaines $2,800. The championship round will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 7 tonight.

The tour moves to Rockford, Ill., for the Women's CollegiatePro Doubles Challenge, which started Wednesday. The top women college players are paired with pros for the event. ESPN will air the finals at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

WIBC UPDATE: Fargo Sports broke the WIBC record for Division 1 teams with a 3,000 pinfall to lead at South Milwaukee, Wis.

Stephanie May and Amanda Flood of Valrico and Brandon, are fourth in the Division 1 doubles with a 1,212 pinfall. Ginger Phillips of Spring Hill is fifth in the Division 2 singles with a 626 series.

Shirley Hintz of Cocoa won the third annual WIBC Senior Queens title May 6 at Milwaukee. Hintz and Pam Buckner rolled to a tie after three regulation games and Hintz won the one-game roll-off 215-198. Hintz earned $2,650.
