Soon, only a memory will persist
Only a few more days are left to see a rare confluence. The Persistence of Memory and The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory by Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali had never been shown together until the former's arrival in St. Petersburg in March, on loan to the Salvador Dali Museum from the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
The Persistence of Memory, shown, was painted in 1931 and probably is the artist's most famous work, its melting watches among the most recognizable images in 20th century art. Disintegration, owned by the Dali Museum, was painted between 1952 and 1954 and revisits the same symbols and themes. Persistence will be on view at Dali through June 8, then will be returned to MOMA.
The Salvador Dali Museum is located at 1000 Third St. S, St. Petersburg. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; noon to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Admission is $10 for adults (half-price after 5 p.m. on Thursday) with discounts for seniors, students and children. For more information, call (727) 823-3767.
