NEW PORT RICHEY -- Pasco County sheriff's deputies arrested a New Port Richey newcomer Friday and charged him with failing to register as a sex offender.
According to Sheriff's Office reports, Edwin Lynn Hartis, 47, of 6419 Massachusetts Ave., moved to New Port Richey at least two weeks ago without notifying the state Department of Corrections. He was wanted by the state and listed as an absconder.
He was booked into the Pasco County jail in Land O'Lakes with bail set at $10,000.
Department of Corrections records show Hartis was imprisoned in 1992 on convictions for sexual battery and aggravated assault.
Teen arrested in Meals on Wheels theft
ZEPHYRHILLS -- Police arrested a 17-year-old boy Friday and were looking for an 18-year-old accomplice, both accused of breaking into the Zephyrhills Meals on Wheels office and stealing more than $400.
The boy's name is being withheld because of his age. According to Zephyrhills police, the 17-year-old was arrested about 2:15 a.m. Friday after a patrol officer stopped the car he was riding in on Sixth Avenue. A metal cash box and a cardboard donation box, both reported stolen from the Meals on Wheels office, were in the car.
An 18-year-old also in the car with the teen fled.
Police believe about $460 was taken from the East Pasco Meals on Wheels office. The 17-year-old admitted taking the money, police said. He was turned over to the Pasco County Juvenile Assessment Center.
