Letters to the EditorsYoung volunteers are setting fine example© St. Petersburg Times published June 2, 2002 I volunteer at the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, giving out canned foods, etc. On Friday, May 24, the fifth grade from Lutheran Church of the Cross took a service day from class to come down and volunteer. Twenty-five kids worked for three hours. They regularly collect food and toiletries for us. We need to praise and let it be known what the good kids do. They have great values and we appreciate them.
Sunset isn't right place for high-riseHere in Treasure Island, people are asked to go to the commission meetings and voice their opinions. Because that has been happening lately, a few people are upset. I, as a homeowner on Sunset Beach, do not want another high-rise building here. I am not finding fault with the idea of it but just with the location.
Place emphasis on language skillsRe: Watch your language; others are, May 22. I heartily agree with the column by Douglas Spangler. The current usage of language is atrocious. Most of our offspring in high school can't compose a sentence containing a complete thought. More emphasis should be placed on reading, writing and comprehension. Perhaps we can get more literate usage without using "duh" and "dude."
