TAMPA -- A pizza delivery man who shot at a group of alleged robbers Friday night, killing a 15-year-old, was attacked when he stopped to ask for directions, Tampa police said Saturday.
Police were still conducting interviews and had made no arrests Saturday evening, spokeswoman Katie Hughes said.
Adel Ahmed, 22, was delivering to a regular customer in the Robles Park area, Hughes said. But the customer gave him a new address, which does not exist, she said.
Ahmed stopped at Avon Avenue and Hernandez Court to ask for directions from a group of people, police said. But people in the group reached into the car, grabbed him, his food and his belongings in an apparent robbery attempt, police said.
Scared, Ahmed fired two shots, one of which hit Tyrone Stephens in the lower back. Ahmed fled to his employer, Wings and Things, at 2202 N Albany Ave., and called police, Hughes said. Stephens later died at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Ahmed owned the gun legally, she said.
