DADE CITY -- The Southwest Florida Water Management District's Withlacoochee River Basin Board this week tentatively agreed to reduce its tax rate, potentially saving the average taxpayer $1.13 a year.
The board oversees a district that includes parts of Pasco, Sumter, Hernando, Citrus, Marion and Levy counties.
At a meeting Monday, the basin approved a cut from 29.5 cents per $1,000 of taxable value to 28 cents. For the owner of a house valued at $100,000, with a $25,000 homestead exemption, the rate amounts to $21 a year, or $1.75 a month.
The tax rate won't be official until a final vote in September.
