Marine Corps Sgt. David J. Pittenger, son of Jan and Jim Pittenger of Pinellas Park, has graduated from a six-week sergeants' leadership course at Camp Lejeune, N.C. A 1996 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School, he is assigned to the Joint Communication Support Element at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.

Capt. John C. Mostellar, son of Carol and Carl Mostellar of St. Petersburg, has assumed command of A Battery, 2-3 Field Artillery Regiment. A 1995 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a 1991 graduate of St. Petersburg High School, Mostellar is stationed in Giessen, Germany.

U.S. Naval Reserves Seaman Sarah E. Patton, daughter of Kristen and Roger Fry of Seminole and John J. Patton of Margate, N.J., received a letter of commendation from the Rear Admiral of the United States Naval Reserve Command Southeast while serving as a member of the Force Protection Team at the Naval Reserve Center, Tampa.

Patton was recognized for her coordination efforts between the ship's force protection personnel and local, state and federal agencies during the commissioning of the USS Lassen and subsequent ship tours.

Ryan W. Kort, son of Diane and Thomas Kort of St. Petersburg, received a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Florida and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Kort was a Gold Bar recruiter at Florida and will begin training in September in the armor branch at Fort Knox, Ky.
