By Times staff writer Job readiness program for teensLARGO -- Twenty teenagers ages 14 and 15 will be selected to participate in a six-week program designed to teach them how to create a resume, develop references and participate in mock interviews. The teens also will create and publish Largo's Pocket Guide to Urban Walking Trails. The program, funded by a grant from the founder of Palms of Largo Intergenerational Community Foundation, will be from June 17 to July 31 and meet from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Those who complete the program will receive color copies of their resumes, a program shirt and a $300 gift certificate to a department store. Applications are available at City of Largo Outreach sites, Bayhead Teen Center and Largo Community Center. Applicants must have a Largo Recreation, Parks and Arts membership card. Preference will be given to Largo residents who come from single-parent families and can show evidence of having looked for a job in the past few months. For information, call Mike at 518-3131. Participants will be notified of their selection by June 14. First-time home buyers workshopLARGO -- H.O.P.E. Expo, a first-time home buyer workshop and exhibit will be from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Largo Cultural Center in the Central Park Complex at East Bay Drive and Seminole Boulevard. The free workshop examines credit issues, qualifying, working with real estate agents, lenders, home inspectors and appraisers. It also touches on closing, taxes, insurance, home maintenance and avoiding foreclosure. Registration is required for the workshop and can be arranged by calling 461-0618 during business hours.
