There are opportunities galore this weekend to check out local art museums and art galleries as Tampa, St. Petersburg, Gulfport, Sarasota and Bradenton each sponsor gallery walks.

Though most of the other cities have these events often, Tampa's takes place just twice a year. The Summer Gallery Hop, from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, zigzags through downtown and South Tampa. Those who don't want to navigate the course can hop on Hartline air-conditioned trolleys for free transport to many of the venues.

Parking is available in the Curtis Hixon Parking Garage at Ashley Drive and Twiggs Street.

The gallery hop is free, but donations are welcome and are dedicated to the Hillsborough Education Foundation for art scholarships.

The trolley service, also free, will run two routes, both beginning at the Tampa Museum of Art and circulating every 15 or 20 minutes. The public is invited to a free reception at the museum from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. that includes information about participating galleries. Maps are available at all locations.

For more information, call (813) 274-8534.
